SAN FRANCISCO — Eric Mar, two-term member of the San Francisco Board of Education and supervisor-elect for San Francisco’s District 1 (Richmond District), symbolically accepted the baton from current Supervisor Jake McGoldrick in front of a packed house of 300 supporters on Dec. 6.
“I am deeply honored that District 1 voters have selected me to represent them on the Board of Supervisors,” said Mar, who emerged victorious despite a vicious negative campaign against him. “This was a hard-fought victory made possible through a true grassroots effort and the dedication of my supporters.”
Also present at the event, held at Yet Wah Restaurant in the Richmond District, were state Senator Leland Yee, current Board of Supervisors President Aaron Peskin, Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi, Supervisor-elect John Avalos, Board of Education President Mark Sanchez, Community College Trustee John Rizzo and Trustee-elect Chris Jackson.
Mar acknowledged San Francisco’s rich history of district elections for the Board of Supervisors, saying “I will do my best to honor the legacy of people like Harvey Milk and Gordon Lau who were also elected as district supervisors to empower their communities.”
