The Richmond District is undoubtedly [']rich['] with a wide diversity of cultures and residents. Our family has been proudly living in the Richmond District for ten years. My extended families of uncles and aunties also have moved in around the same time after hearing about the great things of the district. We also have made some good friends in the neighborhood.

Conveniently located near the Golden Gate Park, Legion of Honors, the Presidio, and the beach, we find it very accessible to keep an active and healthy lifestyle. Our district is also filled with people from all walks of ethnic backgrounds. We love dinning and shopping in the New Chinatown on Clement Street, and going to all the good shops and restaurants on Geary Blvd and Balboa Street. A few of our favorite restaurants are Ton Kiang and Yet Wah for dim sum, Americana with a blend of Italian and Vietnamese, and Taishan Cafe serving authentic Taishanese dishes, especially the yellow eel clay pot rice, which is famous from the area where my family immigrated from! The playgrounds and community agencies are also wonderful. My mother often takes my daughter and nephews to the Rochambeau Playground, and to the Asian Family Support Center for their children programs.

As good as it is already, a lot still needs to be maintained and improved. Our family’s main concerns are safe and clean neighborhoods, efficient transportation, and sufficient parking spaces. As tax payers we’re concerned about how our money is spent, and we want to be sure that its usage benefit the community. We also wish the community could be brought closer, such as more community events and outreach programs.

Eric Mar has been our friend for more than a decade. He is a longtime community leader, an activist, a teacher, and a friend. He has a passion for helping others and improving the society. He is a very responsible person who cares and respects others, and treats all people with equality. Most importantly, he is not afraid to stand up for justice.

We need Eric’s strong leadership as our district Board of Supervisor to represent and advocate for our neighborhood. We are confident that he will continue to be a personable and responsive leader who devotes his integrity and commitments to protect and strengthen/improve our community. We strongly believe as a Board of Supervisor, he would be able to serve the community to a further capacity in improving the quality of life for residents in both the Richmond District (D1) and San Francisco as a whole. Eric Mar will bring leadership to City Hall in November 2008!
